Our Praise of God

Worship is central to the life of this congregation.  We do many things in addition to worship, and we do them well, but we try never to lose sight of the fact that we are first and foremost a worshiping community!  With that in mind, we work hard to ensure that our worship is:

Liturgical – grounded in the Lutheran Tradition, yet enriched by those who have come to us from Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist, and other traditions.

Varied – with music and hymns both ancient and very modern.

Dignified – aware that we are in the presence of God, yet striving never to be stuffy, nor too stiff (you could describe it as relaxed-formality).

Participatory – involving many lay people - adults and children - in worship leadership and music.

Mid-Church – neither too high (more Catholic than the Catholics), nor too low (bare and simple). We are proudly in the “middle.”

Holy Communion

St. Mark's celebrates Holy Communion at all services with rare exception. Children who have not yet communed come forward to receive a blessing. All are welcome at the table of the Lord.

Holy Communion is by intinction. A wafer placed into each one's hands is dipped by each into red wine or white grape juice, as one chooses.

Vocal Choir

St. Mark's vocal choir sings Sundays at the 10:30 a.m. service (but not at the one 9:00 a.m. service in the summer). Rehearsals are ordinarily held Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.  Whether you have sung in a choir for years or never before, you are cordially invited  to add your voice to our growing number of choristers.

Praise Team

St. Mark's Praise Team leads us in song at Sunday's  8:00 a.m. Contemporary Service.  Rehearsals are ordinarily held on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Children at Worship

St. Mark's warmly welcomes children at worship and encourages parents to help  children develop the practice of regular participation.

In the church's worship children learn the hymns of faith and to pray; they become familair with the stories of sacred Scripture, and are nourished in a Holy Communion.

A special time for children is set aside at the later service every other week. For parents desiring it, nursery care is available for pre-school children during Sunday's later service and at every Sunday service in the summer.
